Keswick and Ullswater

Cyclists will enjoy the quiet country lanes around the holiday cottages and camping barn and there are lots of lovely local walks.  There are many famous Lake District peaks within an easy drive with Belancathra, Helvellyn and Scarfell offering the backdrop to the farm.   Two miles from the farm in the centre of Mungrisdale is a shop, pub and restaurant. The market town of Keswick and tourist opportunities of Ullswater lake are a short drive away.


The bustling market town of Keswick with an abundance of interesting shops, cafes is only four and a half miles away.  Keswick has a few museums and tourist attractions including the bizarre puzzle place a great hour’s entertainment for adults and children. Keswick’s Crow Park hugs the shores of  Derwentwater Lake and here you can catch the Keswick Launch to various stops around the shore and walk back , combining a walks and a cruise in one.


Ullswater is a short drive away and offers spectacular scenery, challenging walks and another opportunity for a cruise and gentle walk using the launch and steamers. Ullswater is the Lake District’s second largest lake, it twists through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline on the other.  There are water sports available on the lake shore including several venues offering sailing.  The  launch with its steamers offers nostalgia and a gentle way to enjoy the scenery.

Glenridding on the south western shore of Ullswater is the start of the famous trek to Helvellyn’s summit via Striding Edge.  Pooley Bridge with its quaint tea shops is on the northern shore of Ullswater and offers great climbing on Gowbarrow Cragg.
